Voting occurs on a 5 point scale. An applicant receives a score of 1 if they receive a vote at the 'monkey'
(lacking in looks!) end of the scale. The applicant receives a score of 2, 3 or 4 along the middle of the scale and
5 at the 'fully-evolved' (ultra-hot!) end of the scale. Each applicant receives an average score from member votes
and an average score from non-member votes.
Members, being highly evolved, attractive people themselves, have the majority of the say in who is selected for
Darwin Dating membership. Members' votes count for 80% of the applicant's final score. Members may vote for
anyone; however their voting default is their preferred sex.
Ugly people aren't totally worthless and there may be some attractive people who aren't yet members,
so non-members can vote. However, to reflect the fact that as a group, they aren't as attractive as the
members, the total non-member score counts for 20% of the total score.
Here is the calculation formula:
Score = 0.8(M) + 0.2(N)
Where M = members score
Where N = non-members score
In the early stages of the site we are monitoring average scores before determining a cut off.
We expect to take only the top 10%-20% of applicants, though this will depend on the quality of
applicants we receive. For the mathematicians out there, this may mean we don't decide on a set
score for entry. Instead, an applicant may need to be in the top 10% or 20% of scores to be invited to join.
